Rosy Honey-Myrtle
Melaleuca diosmatifolia
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
A native of Queensland woodlands and Darling downs, New South Wales’s Western slopes, Mountains and coastal plain. Its native habitat is very broad and it thrives along watercourses, river flats and woodlands with sandy soils. Climatic conditions are also broad: sunny & open to light shady positions are acceptable as are drought and moderate frost.
An evergreen shrub growing to a height of 3 metres with a spread of 2 metres; the stem is erect and smooth carrying stalkless small leaves alternately that at a distance resemble a Diosma. The flower is a mauve to deep mauve similar to a bottlebrush and occurs from spring to summer. The fruit is small, woody capsules.
Melaleuca diosmatifolia demands little maintenance and is a typical hardy, drought-tolerant native.
