Violet Honey-Myrtle
Melaleuca wilsonii
This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List
The Violet Honey-Myrtle is perhaps the showiest plant of the Melaleuca genus and deserves a place in any dry, sandy garden. A native of southwest Victoria and south-east South Australia in dry mallee country, it is often grown in gardens similar to its habitat.
An evergreen shrub growing to 1.5 metres with a spread of 2 metres, the stem is erect and smooth with a loosely textured, elegant crown; the leaves are dull green, opposite, narrow, erect, acuminate, thick and 1cm long; The flowers are violet-purple occurring in long spikes along the branches and appearing in profusion in late spring.
Its preference is for light, well-drained, alkaline soils in a protected, semi-shaded position. It is drought and frost-resistant.
Offered is a 5 gram packet (150,000 seeds including chaff) with propagation notes.
