European Pennyroyal has been used as a folk medicine for thousands of years. Medical research does not support its reputed benefits and warms against its use as a medical treatment. A member of the mint family, it is an evergreen perennial that spreads strongly over time. Many growers grow it in hanging baskets to curtail its spread while others find that it is a good stabiliser plant on banks or sandy slopes and is reputedly an insect or small animal repellant.
Growing to a height of 25 cm (1 ft) it spreads where the stems touch the soil surface and take root. It is not fussy about soil type even thriving in poor rocky habitats. It prefers full sun to light shade, will tolerate some frost and drought.
Offered is a packet of 100 seeds with grownotes to assist you in successfully cultivating this traditional perennial.
