Pink Pimelea
Pimelea furruginea
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
The Pink Pimelea is a native of south coastal Western Australia where it thrives on rocky sites and sand dunes. An evergreen shrub growing 1 metre tall and wide, it has a very long flowering period (September to March in the Southern Hemisphere) and is accepting of salt winds & seaside gardens.
An unusual shrub, it has 12 mm, oval, dense, dark green, paired opposite leaves, each pair in the opposite direction to the previous pair. The flowers are carried in clusters on the branch ends and are suitable as a cut flower.
Pimeleas prefer a well-drained soil of neutral to slightly acid pH, full sun to light shade, and a temperate to the Mediterranean climate. Humid sub-tropical and tropical climates often result in an unreliable plant and are not recommended.
Seed from this plant requires ‘smoke treatment’ which is the simple and cheap process of covering the sown seed with a layer of treated vermiculite. Smoke treatment is available in my store.
Offered is a packet of 20 seeds with propagation notes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
