Scabiosa has been cultivated for almost 300 years in southern Europe where it has the name Pincushion Flower. In the past few years, hybridists have taken this plant to new heights in colour and form.
Scabiosa Perfection Blue has large, very frilly, pincushion flowers of rich blue-lavender, with creamy centres. It is one of the longest flowering and glamorous of the annual cut flowers.
Tolerant of most soils, it is rosette-forming with ferny-type leaves (pinnately dissected). The flowers consist of many florets on a long stem (which may need to be supported). Considered hardy for an annual, the soil moisture should be maintained during flowering and plants should be removed after the first frost.
