Wisteria is a deciduous flowering vine from Asia where it has been cultivated for centuries. A hardy plant that grows vigorously over a supporting structure, its trunk can grow to a girth of 30 cm at maturity and support a canopy of huge proportions.
While the plant is not much to look at in winter, the spring flowering of pendant white flowers (like bunches of grapes) is profuse and spectacular, while the summer mid-green foliage is lush and abundant. The flowers, which reach their peak in mid-spring, are noted for their sweet fragrance.
