A shrub related to the Banksias and Grevilleas, the Dryandra family is only native to the southern areas of West Australia before it was combined with Banksia and Dryandra fell into disuse.
Preferring medium to heavy, gravelly soils in an open, sunny position, this drought and frost hardy, evergreen shrub reaches a height of 3.5 metres with a spread of 2 metres.
The stem is erect with an open-textured crown and woolly branches; the leaves are 20 cm long, stiff, slender, dark green, discolorous (upper and lower leaf surfaces are different) and divided to the mid-rib into saw-like segments. The flowers are globular and look almost a metallic orange-yellow, terminal and 3.5 cm across. These finely sculpted flower heads make good cut flowers.
