Birdnest or Woolybear Banksia

Banksia baxteri

(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)

A native of the southern coastal plain (between Albany and Esperence) of West Australia where it likes the sandy soil of the coastal plain or the sand dunes where it acts as a soil consolidating plant. Of course, it likes an open, sunny position and is drought, frost and salt resistant.

An evergreen shrub it can grow to 3 x 2 metres. The stem is erect with an open-textured crown; the leaves are mid-green, stiff, flat with heavily serrate margins to the leaf mid-vein giving the appearance of little triangles arranged along the mid-vein; the flowers are creamy yellow cylindrical spikes to 10 cm long, appearing summer through autumn.

Offered is a packet of 2 seeds and Grownotes to assist you to successfully grow this unusual plant.

All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
