Bull Banksia
Banksia grandis

The Bull Banksia is a native of south-western West Australia where it prefers sandy, well-drained soils in an open, sunny position. It is drought, frost and salt air hardy but a smaller plant is to be had in salt conditions. A winter rainfall plant (Mediterranean climate) it dislikes humidity.
A tree growing up to 10 metres depending on conditions, it has distinctive leaves being up to 45cm long and 10cm wide, strongly divided into triangular lobes to the midrib and are used in the florist industry as filler. The flowers are large and may be up to 40cm long by 9cm in diameter, occur in spring through mid summer and are pale yellow in colour. The Fruits are large cones that can be used ornamentally.
This plant, though slow, grows readily from seed.
