Mountain Ash or Tasmanian Oak

 Eucalyptus regnans

(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)

A very large tree and the tallest known flowering tree, almost rivaling the Giant Sequoia of California in size. Its habitat is Southern Victoria (Otway Ranges) & Eastern Victoria (Gippsland Forests) and Tasmania on deep soils and it usually grows in pure stands of tall, wet forest.
An evergreen tree growing to an average of 85 metres (280 ft) with an erect, straight trunk with a rough bark stocking of 5 – 20 metres then a smooth grey bark for the remainder. Flowering is in autumn. The tree is often killed by severe bushfires and can only regenerate by seed. Mature E. regnans forests have been found to store more carbon than any other known forest and trees are known to live up to 400 years, the tallest living specimen recorded is 132 metres (433 ft).

Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (includes chaff) with propagation notes. Buyers should read the disclaimer below.

DISCLAIMER.

All Eucalyptus/Corymbia seed is harvested from the wild under licence and is sold as a combination of fertilised/unfertilised (chaff) seed. In many cases it is not possible to tell the difference. The ratio of fertilised seed varies greatly and depends wholly on weather conditions prior to seed set. Standard industry practice is to offer 200 seeds per packet which translates to something like 10 to 30 viable seeds (which have not been counted). If the above is not acceptable to you, please do not purchase any of the above seeds.

All seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
