A native of the Rio Grande area of Texas and Mexico, this plant is a clump forming succulent with arching, leathery, grass-like dark green foliage with sparse fibrous strands on the leaf margins. Flowering is on stems that can reach 60 to 100 cm tall (2 – 3 ft) and bear masses of crowded, coral red flowers with a golden thoat.
The foliage has a reddish-bronze hue in winter which adds to the plants interest year round. The plant is minimum maintenace, heat tolerant yet cold hardy and will grow on poor soils. Like most succulents, offsets can be taken in Spring.
