A native of Mauritius, India and Northern Australia where it prefers rich, moist soils in a protected, sunny position. It dislikes both drought and frost.
A deciduous tree to 10 metres with a spread of 3 metres. The stem is erect, slender and branching; the leaves pale green, bipinnate 30cm long and divided into 20 or more leaflets. The flowers are pink, white or dark red, pea-shaped occurring in short racemes in summer.
The leaves are used in Asian cooking or as fodder for cattle.
Offered as a packet of 20 seeds with grownotes.
