Violet Banksia
Banksia violacea

A native of the southern coastal plain (between Albany and Esperence) of West Australia, and up to 200 km inland, where it likes sandy soils over clay or gravel. Of course, it likes an open, sunny position and is drought, frost and moderately salt resistant.
A low growing, evergreen shrub that grows to 1.2 metres high with a 2 metre spread. The stem is erect with an open-textured crown; the leaves are mid-green, narrow, 1 – 2cm long, opposite with recurved margins; the flowers are purple black ranging through violet to yellow-green, almost spherical spikes to 10 cm long, appearing summer through autumn and will spot flower given the right conditions.
