Silver Banskia

Native to coastal heaths, forest and woodland of the central tableland and central coast of New South Wales, the coastal plain and highlands of Victoria and South Australia and the entire of Tasmania. This is the most variable of the Banksias growing from a 1 metre shrub to a medium-sized tree. It also accepts a variety of soils and habitats.
An evergreen plant with linear leaves, 15 to 60mm long by 3 to 13mm wide often with re-curved (rolled under) margins which may also have small serrations. The upper surface is dull green while the underside is silvery giving rise to its common name.
The flowers are pale yellow cylindrical spikes, 5 – 10cm long and 4 – 6cm wide.
This plant is common in cultivation and is considered relatively easy to grow from seed.
