A native of the Andes Mountains of South America and food of the Incas, it prefers rich, well-drained, moist soils in an open, sunny position. It dislikes both drought and frost.
An evergreen vine is known to climb to a height of 5 metres. It has an erect, woody, branching stem; the leaves are light green and narrowly lobed, with deeply incised margins and is covered with fine hairs on the underside; the flowers are very pretty rose pink, 7.5cm across; the fruit is yellow, banana-like, edible berries, 7 cm long.
Offered is a packet of 10 seeds with propagation notes.
