Native to New South Wales, Australia, this tree prefers light to heavy, well-drained soils in an open, sunny position. It is a frost and drought-resistant shrub of coastal heathlands.
An compact, tall shrub that grows to 7 metres high and spreads 4 metres. The stem is stout, branching with a well-rounded crown. The leaves are bright green, linear and 2cm long.
The flowers are a large orange-red colour, 40 cm long, appearing through autumn and winter to spring. Bird attracting.
