A native of the border area between South Africa and Namibia, it is a small. low-growing stemless succulent that forms a compact tuft of bluish-green leaves which are fused at the base of the plant. The evergreen leaves are up to 10 cm long. the margins of which are occasionally tinged red. The flowers and borne singly, are yellow and are up to 5 cm in diameter.

This plant is listed as endangered in its natural habitat due to stock grazing and enthusiastic collectors.
